DatesWeiser xo Wins Two Golds and Best Booth at NeoCon

No doubt about it, DatesWeiser is on a roll. The company that built its formidable reputation on superb custom contract office furniture has picked up two prestigious NeoCon awards for the second year in a row. And once again, the awards have been bestowed on the company’s celebrated xo line, this year for its innovative new desks and tables.

If you’ve seen the new xo desk and table, you’ll hardly be surprised that they captured the gold at NeoCon 2001. The xo freestanding desk is simply a gorgeous piece of furniture. With its curved and luscious lines, this striking desktop featuring book-matched veneers is so beautiful, you’d have to be crazy to clutter it up with work. It won the Best of NeoCon Gold Award in the Desk Category.

Like the xo freestanding desk, the new xo conference table is both ravishing to look at and supremely functional to use. Built on the foundations of the xo look, feel, and ease of installation, the new xo tech-integrated conference table literally slides open and shut to accommodate all wire requirements. Clean, elegant, and directly connected to power, this table was on display in NeoCon in quarter figured sycamore with exquisite bookmatch veneers. It won the Best of NeoCon Gold Award for Tables in the Electrified Category.

Not only were the company’s products a hit. So was its ‘packaging.’ DatesWeiser also picked up another coveted award with the IIDA NeoCon Showroom & Booth Design Competition for booths 1000 square feet or larger.

"We are honored and delighted by the recognition and success of xo within the industry and thrilled to win the gold again at NeoCon," says Allan Weiser, DatesWeiser president. "Last year we introduced the concept of independent planes created from complementary materials like wood, glass, aluminum and stone. In this year’s product line, we’ve added movement. Our conference tables have very functional movements in the planes as they open up and expose the portals for plugs."

Introduced last year, xo was an immediate hit with office interior designers and quickly captured two coveted medals at NeoCon 2000: a gold for best desk design and a silver for best overall furniture system. Gensler Worldwide received the Award of Merit for Interior Architecture for the design of DatesWeiser’s New York showroom.

In March DatesWeiser won more recognition with an Acclaim Award for Best In Category in the International Interior Design Association competition in Los Angeles. The award was presented for the xo reception desk and was based on design innovation, use of technology, quality of materials, craftsmanship, and price in relation to product application.

Measuring six by three feet, the new xo freestanding desk is available in 7 veneers including sycamore, anigre, and maple. The gentle sloping xo signature profile edge marks the front of the desk at the point of human contact while the remaining worksurface edges are tastefully accented with aluminum edge banding. In addition, new xo finishes include lush and vibrant colors that play off the rich wood surfaces.

"The movement within the xo worksurface is very much within the language of the system we developed last year," adds Mr. Weiser. "It all works very well with the geometry and form of a product line designed to bring a simple, elegant functionality to the office workplace. If anything, the new products offer an even more custom look, but still within the context of a kit of parts."
