New York Library Of Performing Arts
New York, New York
DESIGNER: Polshek Partnership
This state-of-the-art library project provided DatesWeiser
with the opportunity to use their strengths in building custom furniture
bringing wood, steel and glass together. This highly collaborative project
resulted in an innovative approach to data and power integration, and
the flexibility in moving from privacy to group work environments.
DatesWeiser built over 100 reading carrels with stainless
steel accents, beech veneer and privacy screens of custom glass panels.
These screens were uniquely designed to be moveable. Each panel can be
moved or removed to create a reading table from a carrel. This
allows flexibility for the users at any time. The carrels are gangable
and reconfigurable. Electrical integration of the carrels was provided
through the metal support infrastructure and concealed wire trough. The
clean, simple, and well-designed support structure created a lean profile
for an area that required high density of work areas.
